AUDITIONS: As the resident company of the Boulder Jazz Dance Workshop (BJDW), auditions for each season are held during the BJDW 2-week intensive at the University of Colorado. The auditions for our 2017 concert were held on July 25th & 26th, 2016 at the 38th annual BJDW. Auditions for the 2018 season will be held August 1st & 2nd during the 2017 BJDW*. Currently this is the only audition we are holding. Dancers are also invited to join IDT without formally auditioning. We do not accept video submissions.
2017 Production Timeline: 7.19 rehearsals start (apprentices may arrive 7.21). 8.5.17 matinee and evening performances.
2016 Audition Results (for IDT 2017): We have made decisions but will not post a list of company members until dancers have accepted positions. If you auditioned please check your email and if you have not received an email, please contact Lara: [email protected]
IDT II: Formed in 2013, IDT II is an offshoot of IDT and offers an elite group of dance students the opportunity to perform in a piece choreographed by an IDT dancer. This piece is connected to the theme of the IDT project, but is performed in the BJDW performance (August 4, 2017). Participation in IDT II can be a first step toward dancing with IDT.
IDT COMPANY STRUCTURE:
Tier 1: Full Company – Paid position (payment varies based on ticket sales, grants, and other fund-raising activities). Receive full scholarship to company classes**. Limited to 16 dancers max. Typically perform in 4 to 5 pieces per project. (NOTE: Exceptions have been known to occur but, as a rule, we do not offer a full company slot to a new dancer.)
Tier 2: Company – Receive 50% scholarship to BJDW company classes**. Company dancers are in line to move up to Full Company as space allows. Typically perform in 3 to 4 pieces per project.
Tier 3: Continuing Apprentice. For dancers who have apprenticed with us at least once before. Receive 35% discount to all BJDW classes*. Some dancers are invited to dance as ”Company” after apprenticing one year. For others, a continuation as an apprentice is deemed appropriate. Typically perform in 2 to 3 pieces per project. Continuing Apprentices may participate in BJDW performance and are required to attend company classes.**
Tier 4: 1st year Apprentice. Receive 25% discount to all BJDW classes (required to take company classes** and at least one repertory class so we can see them perform in several styles of work). Typically perform in 1 or 2 pieces per project. Note that most dancers come into IDT at this level but depending on various factors, including our assessment from auditions and the dancer’s experience level, occasionally a dancer is invited in at the “Company” or even “Full Company” level.
